Review: The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern #1) by Shannon Hale

I remember several years ago checking out this book from the library and after that I always checked it out when I went to the library, this is such a fantastic novel and it is one that I love to re-read over and over again!

The Goose Girl is a story that basically transports you to another whorl, a world with the typical kings and queens but Kildenree has been fighting with another kingdom for years and the only way they can solve this is to have an arranged marriage between the prince of Bayern and princess of Kildenree. Anidori-Kiladra Talianna Isilee, Crown Princess of Kildenree has always been different, people whisper about her in her kingdom saying that she is insane because Anidori can talk to animals and she has a special connection to her horse. Anidori is frightened to be sent off to Bayern fearing she will be treated the same way and well what if her husband is unkind, who wants to be married that young!? Anidori is escorted to Bayern by a small army and a lady-in-waiting but on the way Anidori is betrayed and her army tries to kill her! Her lady-in-waiting steals her identity as a princess and orders Anidori to be killed but she flees and makes her way to Bayern to expose the impostor. Things become complicated and well it is a fantastic book! One that I defiantly recommend people read!

Anidori-Kiladra Talianna Isilee, Crown Princess of Kildenree, spends the first years of her life under her aunt's guidance learning to communicate with animals. As she grows up Ani develops the skills of animal speech, but is never comfortable speaking with people, so when her silver-tongued lady-in-waiting leads a mutiny during Ani's journey to be married in a foreign land, Ani is helpless and cannot persuade anyone to assist her.

Becoming a goose girl for the king, Ani eventually uses her own special, nearly magical powers to find her way to her true destiny. Shannon Hale has woven an incredible, original and magical tale of a girl who must find her own unusual talents before she can become queen of the people she has made her own.

This is the first book in the series and I definitely recommend people to give it a go!
